Skin and Soul - The Invention of Imperfection
The
relationship between body and soul nowadays.
At
some point in history, something really strange happened and people started
feeling ashamed of the bodies they had. Who defines beauty and why has
‘imperfection’ become so popular? Why do we feel ashamed? Shame should never be
part of us, related to who we are and to what we have been given.
At
some point in history, something very strange happened and people’s ideals were
no longer spiritual, but physical.
Attraction
replaced love. Flesh replaced affection. Beauty suddenly meant obeying rules
and changing yourself.
Appearance
came first, essence was no longer minded.
Appearance
became a purpose. Shame became popular. Self-hate and disgust started being in
vogue.
Skin
and flesh, everything is about them.
Imperfection
is a popular story.
Shapes
and numbers.
Imperfection
is in fashion.
But
beauty never had only one face.
Physical
concerns: an industry.
Criticism.
Rules for reaching perfection. Gradually imposed shame.
Gradually
imposed taste. General attraction. Ordinariness.
Mediocrity.
Hate your body. Take
care of your body. Hide your imperfections.
Never
mention your soul.
So busy hating your
body, that you forget to use your soul.
The
body is just a pretext of the soul.
The
body is an instrument of the soul.
The
body is a home of the soul, its earthly expression.
The
body is a way of letting the soul be discovered. Maybe a language of the soul.
The
soul isn’t fashionable. The body isn’t eternal.
The
soul doesn’t need the body. The body is dead without the soul.
The
soul grows deeper. The body grows old.
The
soul enriches. The body rots.
The
body is covered in skin. The soul is covered in light.
The
soul is free. The body is limited.
The
body is made of flesh and bones. The soul is made of Love.
